President's Message:  Brenda Engel, Council President 2015-2016

As I write this letter on the first day of Spring, I am enjoying sunshine and daffodils in bloom. We are probably all welcoming the warmer weather to come, except for those folks who didn’t have chances to ski very much during this very mild winter. Maybe next year!

Since our last newsletter, the Council has accomplished a number of things:

  • Our Council financially sponsored several students from Michigan State University and Eastern Michigan University to attend the Global Student Leadership Conference in Orlando in November. Many of them sent me appreciative Thank you notes to express their thanks to the Council.
  • We had a very successful Student Leadership Conference on March 18, with about 30 students. Penny Weller gave a wonderful presentation on Leadership and promoted the CMA certification to the students and professionals in attendance.
  • Our Global Vice President and committee members attended the February Board meeting and reported the latest news to the Council at our March 8th Council meeting. Please contact Penny Weller at any time if you have questions about issues that were discussed.
  • Several of our Council Board members are also SCMS board members and attended their Board meeting in person or via conference call in February. Dana Collins is the President-Elect of SCMS for next year. Congratulations, Dana!

As we wind up this program year, we are planning for our Council’s participation in the Annual Conference in Las Vegas in June and our planning meeting in July. We will have a hospitality suite, along with the Ohio Council. Please join us if you are attending the Conference. Everyone who visits has a great time and works on a challenging jigsaw puzzle. Our Council planning meeting will be held on July 12, 2016 at La Senorita in Lansing, MI. All members of chapters in the Michigan Council are welcome to attend and help plan the upcoming year’s events. I encourage you to attend this meeting if you have an interest in helping to serve the Council in the year ahead. The Michigan Council is proud to provide support to the chapters in Michigan and Northern Indiana through leadership training, providing educational speakers on important topics along with financial support for local events important to each chapter.

I have been very fortunate to lead our Council’s team this last year. Our team makes it very easy to be successful. As many Presidents have said before me, we are a family and have built relationships that support each other and our Council’s efforts. Thanks to all who have made this happen. I am working hard to insure that our history of earning the Council Award of Excellence continues. Hopefully, all of the work that you have done at the Chapter level this year will result in a banner year for all of you. Thank you for all that you do for your Chapters and the Michigan Council.

Sincerely,

Brenda Engel, MBA

President of the IMA Michigan Council 2015-2016
