President's Message: Anne Meehan, Council President 2012-2013
I would like to thank each and every one of you who attended the Annual Conference. The hard work of our dedicated Michigan Council and the valued support of our sponsors and members resulted in record attendance. We strive to bring quality speakers with interesting and relevant topics so plan now to attend next year’s event!
As I emphasized at the conference, this organization exists to serve its members. I would encourage you to take advantage of your local chapter as well. It is there to bring you opportunities for CPE, provide valuable networking, interesting speakers and a peer group to discuss topics affecting you and your business. The contacts and dates of upcoming meetings are listed on our website. Tap in to the resource that is there and take full advantage of your membership!
CALLING NEW MEMBERS:
If you find that your IMA membership is bringing value to you and you have enjoyed the Annual Conference, please consider sharing your IMA experience with a friend or co-worker that may also gain benefit from involvement in the IMA. The pricing for our Annual Conference is such that it provides extreme value for the CPE earned. I would challenge each member to invite a peer to the next chapter meeting or Annual Conference. Let’s grow our Michigan IMA this year and share the resources our field relies on!

More than 200 people attended the 11th Annual Michigan Fall Conference on Monday, October 29, 2012
The IMA Michigan Planning Committee, led by Fall Conference Chair, Chuck Phillips, CMA, prepared another great conference program. Doug Hicks, CPA served as Moderator and introduced a great slate of Conference Speakers who shared their knowledge and experiences with an audience of Accounting and Finance Professionals, Faculty and Students from area colleges.
For those who were able to attend this year's Conference, we hope that the educational experience and opportunities to network with your peers at the conference will assist you in furthering your education and advancing your careers. For those who were unable to attend, reserve Monday, October 28, 2013 to join us for the next Conference.
Michigan Council Wins 14th Council of Excellence Award

IMA Global Director, Sue Bos Offers Advice to Students Seeking Positions
Susan E. Bos, CMA, CPA is an IMA Global Board of Directors member. She’s held many IMA volunteer posts with IMA over more than 25 years. Her offices have included Ann Arbor Chapter President, Michigan Council President and National Vice President. She has chaired IMA National Committees, and served several times on the IMA Global Board of Directors. Sue remains very involved with the Michigan Council of IMA and her chapter. She works on behalf of accounting and finance students at her own Ann Arbor Chapter, and through the Michigan Council. She serves on several academic advisory boards at Eastern Michigan University, in Ypsilanti. In her profession, Sue is Tax and Accounting Manager for the Washtenaw County Treasurer’s Office in Ann Arbor. In that role, she is experienced in hiring entry-level accountants and interns, as well as experienced accountants.
In a recent interview for IMA’s publication, “Campus Connection”, Sue was asked for her insights into the accounting profession, and for students who are preparing to enter accounting professions.

Detroit Chapter News
The Detroit Chapter's next meeting will be a joint meeting with IIA on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at VisTaTech Center, Schoolcraft College, Lavonia, MI. Guest speakers will be Tom Naughton, CEO, Wayne County Authority & Mustafa Mohatarem, Ph.D. Chief Economist, General Motors.
The Chapter's Annual Student Night "Career Development" is scheduled for Tuesday, February 19, 2013. The Chapter's Annual Spring Conference is scheduled for Thursday, March, 21, 2013.

Michiana Chapter News
The Michiana Chapter's is having a Holiday Bash on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Tippecanoe Place in South Bend, IN. The Chapter's last meeting this year is scheduled for Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Future meetings include: An "Annual Tax Update" by guest speaker, Larry Lackner on January 15, 2013 and "The Dirty Dozen 12 things you did not know about tax" by Claude Renshaw on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, and "IFRS" by guest speaker, Joyce Hicks on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.
